Set an Olympic Record by Winning Seven Gold Medals

MARK SPITZ  (1950 -          )


Spitz was an outstanding swimmer who set many world records.   In 1972 he was the first to win 7 gold medals in any sport at the Olympics.  His record was overtaken by a fellow swimmer, Michael Phelps, in 2008 who acquired 8 gold medals during the Olympics.
