Johnny Unitas

Played in the Glory Game -- 1958 NFL Championship

Johnny Unitas  (1933 - 2002)  Born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania
Nickname: "Johnny U" & "The Golden Arm”

"Johnny U'' ran up a ledger of game winning exploits seldom matched in NFL history.  He had a rough start as a 9th round draft for Pittsburgh, but was cut before he ever played.  The Baltimore Colts picked him up and he remained with them from 1956 to 1972.

As Colts quarterback, he holds 4 MVP records, 3 Pro Bowl MVPs and a Super Bowl Championship. In 1958, many people refer to the NFL Championship as “the Greatest Game Ever Played” where the game led into an overtime sudden death and Unitas led the Colts to the victory.
