NICKNAME: The Slammer, Slammin' Sammy Snead
For four decades, Snead played golf and won a lifetime of 82 PGA Tour events. He played the Tour and the Senior Tour beginning as a pro in 1934 and having his last big win at The Masters in 1954. He was able to shoot his age (85) in 1997 and was awarded the PGA Tour Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998. What a career!
He pioneered styles with a creative short game and had a phenomenal swing. He gained popularlity on the TV with a folksy and friendly manner. Though he won seven Majors, he wasn't able to add the US Open to the list, although he was runner-up four times.
