Leon Hart

Notre Dame '49 Heisman Trophy Winner

Leon Hart  (1928  -  2002)

 

Leon Hart was a Pittsburgh native who played for the Detroit Lions an American football end for 8 seasons.  In addition to winning three NFL championships, he is noted for his top notch career at Notre Dame University where he began playing as a 17 year old in his freshman year.  

 

From 1946-1949 he played the end position, both offense and defense and received first-team All American honors three times.  The Fighting Irish compiled a 36–0–2 record and won three national championships while Hart was a player.
