John Wooden  (1910-2010)
Nickname: Wizard of Westwood

 

Coach John Wooden was not just an amazing record-breaking coach; he was also an amazing player. John was the first basketball player ever to be named an All- American three times when he played at Purdue. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame as a player in 1961. He was better known for his 27 year coaching career at UCLA. During that time he won ten National Championships in a twelve-year span. He won seven of the ten in consecutive years. He was inducted in the Basketball Hall of Fame for coaching in 1973 when he was still coaching.
