Al Kaline

First Detroit Tiger player to have his uniform number retired (6)

Al kaline - Born 1934 in Baltimore, MD 

As one of the greatest outfielders, Kaline won ten Gold Gloves and was known for his strong throwing arm.  He also was selected for eighteen All-Star games. 

Kaline was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1980, becoming the tenth player in history to be inducted in his first year of eligibility.  Cherry Street which ran behind the left-field stands at the Tiger Stadium in Detroit, was renamed Kaline Drive in his honor.
